Infant Mortality Is Very High In Rural Tibet
For the rural poor in the remote regions of Tibet, pregnancy brings the risk of death. In the poorest communities, one in five infants die before their second birthday. Many more suffer debilitating, humiliating, and lifelong injuries due to lack of adequate medical care. The Raktrul Foundation is committed to improving the health & welfare of Tibetan children.

Simple Solutions Save Lives • You Can Help
One cause of newborn and maternal mortality is infection. A simple clean delivery kit containing a piece of soap, 2 pieces of clean yarn, a razor blade, and plastic drop cloth have been found to significantly decrease the death rate from infection for newborns and their mothers.

		              Our Child Care Goals

By providing remote communities practical assistance - medical check ups, vaccines, health education, and warm clothing, the Raktrul Foundation Child Welfare projects will help care for village children who suffer primarily from common and preventable diseases or neglected injuries. Visit ourChild Welfare Gallery. Our Village Schools Projects Bardor Tulku Rinpoche maintains a free school, Shay Chay Dumra, which translates to "Learning Gardens."
The six room school house is located in Pangta Village, Nangchen, and is open from 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM. As many as 55 to 60 children attend, children who otherwise would not have access to a grade school education. Visit our Village Schools page for more informaiton..
Our Orphanage Raktrul Foundation has also built an orphanage in Dortam to care for about fifty Tibetan orphans between the ages of 2 and 12 years from the Raktrul area’s five surrounding villages.
The first building and dormitory are in place! We hope to build a second orphanage in the near future. Your support will help us feed, clothe and shelter these Tibetan children through the harsh winter.
